Owen Lyon, CPA

Owen is the Managing Partner of the Firm. He is a CPA and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Southern Methodist University.

Owen has a technical background in accounting issues and preparing financial statements in accordance with standards established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, of which the Firm is a member. He has provided testimony as an expert witness in both court and commercial arbitration appointments. In addition, Owen has invaluable experience as a Receiver for troubled companies and has performed in this capacity with the FDIC – Resolution Trust Corporation and for the 188th District Court of Denton County.

He was the Senior Asset Analyst for real estate acquisitions of Henry S. Miller/Kidder Peabody public and private placement funds. In addition, his experience includes acting as a principal in the acquisition of a manufacturing company, serving as Assistant Tax Manager of the Trammell Crow Company and as an Audit and Tax Associate for Price Waterhouse & Company. Owen is also a licensed real estate broker.

Owen and his wife Rene’, live on a ranch north of Gainesville, TX, raising beef cattle and training retrievers. They enjoy visits from their five children and eleven grandchildren who all live in Texas. Owen has been involved in various charities and churches in both Lewisville and Gainesville. We are excited that Owen was chosen 2008 citizen of the year by the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce, and is a graduate of the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce – Leadership Lewisville, Class of 2001.

Linda Burney Fuhr, EA

Linda is our Partner in charge of Production and Client Services. She is an Enrolled Agent, tested and licensed to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. As an Enrolled Agent, she has reciprocity in all fifty states and is required to maintain continuing professional education, ethics, and periodic licensing renewal requirements as prescribed by the Office of Professional Responsibility of the Internal Revenue Service. Linda holds the somewhat unusual position of being a non-CPA owner of a Texas CPA firm. In this capacity, Linda must adhere to the same standards as her CPA colleagues with respect to professional conduct, ethics, and continuing education as set forth by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.

Linda has been a tax practitioner, affiliated with various accounting firms in the Lewisville area since 1985. She has a broad range of experience in tax preparation and tax planning for individuals, various business entities, estates, trusts, and tax-exempt organizations. Linda has an extensive background representing taxpayers before the IRS including Audit and Collections Issues; IRS Appeals; Innocent Spouse Relief; Offers in Compromise; and Taxpayer Advocacy cases. She is frequently consulted by family law attorneys to analyze the income tax considerations of divorce settlements.

Linda is a graduate of Chadron State College, Chadron, Nebraska and pursued graduate studies in Health Care Administration at Texas Women’s University, Denton, Texas. She is a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) and has been a contributing author for NATP’s Tax Pro Monthly. Linda has also participated in consulting engagements with Prometric as a Subject Matter Expert for the development of the IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer Examination as well as revisions to the Special Enrollment Examination which is required for individuals wishing to obtain credentials as an Enrolled Agent.

Linda is active in many civic and church affairs, including a weekly Businesswomen’s Bible Study which she originally founded over a decade ago. Linda is a graduate of the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce Leadership Lewisville. She served for 10 years on the Board of Directors of PediPlace, a non-profit organization providing pediatric health care services to uninsured and under-insured families throughout North Texas, and continues to be an avid supporter of this worthy cause. Linda currently serves on the LISD Facilities Advisory Committee.

Linda resides in Lewisville and is the proud mother of five young adults who have blessed her with nine grandchildren.

Kathy Benfield, EA

Kathy has been a member of the Owen Lyon & Associates team since 1999. She is an Enrolled Agent, tested and licensed to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. As an Enrolled Agent, she has reciprocity in all fifty states and is required to maintain continuing professional education, ethics, and periodic licensing renewal requirements as prescribed by the Office of Professional Responsibility of the Internal Revenue Service. In addition to her client services responsibilities Kathy is a Production Manager for the firm. In this role, she provides mentoring and technical review for our Staff Accountants.

Prior to joining our firm, Kathy developed a broad base of practical experience in the accounting field. While employed in the accounting departments of major corporate retail stores, she rose through the ranks to Accounts Payable Manager. Kathy’s husband Ben, who is a small business owner, was fortunate to also have her able assistance as in-house accountant for his company. Through this experience, Kathy gained an appreciation of the challenges faced by small business owners; the dedication and commitment required to operate a successful business; and a practical understanding of the importance of maintaining accurate financial records.

Kathy is very proficient with QuickBooks, the leading accounting software for small businesses. She frequently conducts QuickBooks training sessions for business owners and their employees either at our office or their places of business. Kathy receives numerous requests from our clients to troubleshoot problems within their accounting systems and is only a phone call or email away when issues arise.

Lezlie Pearson, CPA

Lezlie serves as our Senior Tax Specialist, providing both individual tax planning and business consulting services to our clients. She also has extensive experience with respect to tax and accounting issues of non-profit organizations and is an invaluable resource for our numerous tax-exempt and private foundation clients.

Lezlie holds a bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Baylor University. She has more than 30 years’ experience as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas. During her college years, Lezlie received practical hands-on experience in the accounting field by working each summer for the firm of Embank, Wilson & Co., CPAs. Upon graduation from Baylor, Lezlie became a fulltime employee of the same firm. Lezlie then moved into the corporate world as an in-house accountant for a company with oil and gas and miscellaneous business holdings. She returned to public accounting in 1988 and has been affiliated with various firms in the North Texas area since that time. She has been a vital part of the OLA Team since 2000.

Lezlie’s roots run deep in the Lewisville community, having proudly worn the maroon and white of Lewisville High School as a member of the Farmerette Drill Team (Class of ’78). Lezlie resides in Highland Village and is an active member of First Baptist Church Lewisville where she is a member of the Finance Committee and Sanctuary Choir. Lezlie has 2 children, Hunter, who will attend University of North Texas, and Mackenzie who attends Oklahoma State University.

Susan Elliot, CPA

Susan obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in both Texas and Arkansas and has over 15 years’ experience in public accounting. Her professional experience includes tax preparation for individuals, corporations, partnerships, fiduciaries, and non-profit organizations. She has also worked on teams performing financial audits of various types of entities including financial institutions, universities and businesses.

Susan joined the OLA Team in 2011. Her broad base of technical experience and outstanding organizational skills make her an excellent resource for clients with complex business structures involving multiple legal entities. In addition to preparation of financial statements and tax returns for business clients and individuals, Susan also serves a number of non-profit organizations, with respect to the complex accounting and tax filing requirements unique to tax-exempt entities.

Susan and her husband, Sam, moved from Arkansas to Frisco, Texas in 2000. They are active in their church where she volunteers regularly as a teacher in the children’s ministry area. As the proud parents of four sons, Susan and Sam are kept busy attending their many sporting events including soccer, baseball, basketball and cross-country meets.

Pamela Nichol, EA

Pam is an Enrolled Agent, tested and licensed to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. Pam began working in public accounting in 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In that unique business market, she developed a background in several different industries including construction and gambling. During this phase of her career, Pam gained a broad range of experience in IRS audits, Offers In Compromise and forensic accounting. She became proficient in QuickBooks and provided training to clients in general accounting as well as the payroll features of this software.

In 2013, Pam relocated to Texas to accept a position as an in-house accountant for a local manufacturing company which services the oil and gas industry. Although highly successful in industry, Pam’s forte is public accounting where she can share her tax and accounting expertise with a broad range of businesses and individual clients. With that in mind, Pam joined the OLA Team as a Staff Accountant in 2015. Her broad range of experience both in public accounting and the private sector, makes Pam a valuable resource for our clients.

Pam has two children and one grandchild. One daughter graduated from ITT in 2004 with a BS in Computer Programming and the other daughter graduated from UNR in 2010 with a BA in Liberal and Fine Arts, minoring in Mathematics. Both reside in Nevada.

Lisa Dollak, Staff Accountant

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting Control Systems from the University of North Texas. She has been employed in the field of public accounting for over 10 years, serving a broad range of individual and small business clients. Prior to entering public accounting, Lisa was employed in municipal government and later gained experience in the long term care field.

Lisa and husband Bobby are members of Crossroads Bible Church and actively support a variety of civic and charitable organizations in the Greater Lewisville area. Daughters, Gracie and Emma attend Lewisville High School where they are proud members of the Farmerette Drill Team and Lady Farmer Softball Team. Lisa is also a personal fitness enthusiast, advocating for health and wellness education at all stages of life.

Alan Love, Staff Accountant

Alan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Northeast Louisiana University. Following graduation, he gained extensive experience in the oil and gas industry as a Corporate Tax Account and subsequently Tax Supervisor for Houston-based companies. Alan left corporate America to launch a consulting practice which provided tax and accounting services to small and mid-sized businesses as well as high net worth individuals. He has also served as a Tax Software Specialist and Tax Consultant for tax software companies based in the DWF area.

Alan and his wife Millie have been residents of the DFW area since 1994. They have three adult children and are blessed with three grandchildren. Alan and Millie are members of Valley Creek Church in Flow Mound, TX. Their extended family is also active in church service with Alan’s brother, Ricky, stationed as a missionary in Senegal, West Africa and one son-in-law serving as a Youth Minister in Keller, Texas.

Katy Fisher, Staff Accountant

After completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education at Baylor University, Katy was a member of the teaching profession for seven years. In 2009 she returned to school in order to pursue her true passion for accounting. Katy obtained a Masters’ Degree in Business from Texas Women’s University with an emphasis in accounting and taxation and is currently studying for the CPA Exam.

Katy joined the OLA Team in January of 2012 and has rapidly developed a broad base of practical experience both in accounting and all aspects of income tax preparation.

Katy grew up in the Flower Mound area and currently lives in Denton with her husband, Matt, and three daughters. In addition to managing a growing family, Katy is active in her church’s college ministry.

The Fisher’s became members of the Denton business community with the 2014 launch of their very popular and successful West Oak Coffee Bar. Katy’s firsthand experience as an entrepreneur has given her valuable insight into the challenges faced by our firm’s small business clients.

Linda Hewlett, Office Manager

Linda is a dedicated administrative professional with over 25 years of experience in office management and client relations. Her career began with a major communications corporation where she was extensively trained in management and communications skills; organization; problem solving; and client relations. She was quickly promoted into increasing levels of supervisory and management positions during her 18 year tenure with the company.

After taking time off to raise her daughter, Linda returned to the workforce as Office Manager of her local church, where she also served on the church’s financial committee for more than 10 years.

Joining the OLA Team in 2003, Linda immediately assumed a vital position striving to enhance efficiency throughout the organization and establish quality control processes. She has been instrumental in developing a positive, professional, client-centered focus within our firm.

Linda is an outstanding administrative professional whose goal is to provide a welcoming atmosphere in our front office and excellent customer service to our clients. For the convenience of our clients, Linda is also a Notary and is available to provide that service should the need arise.

Linda and her husband Alan reside in Flower Mound and are active in several areas of ministry within their church. Daughter April and son-in-law Rich live in South Korea where they have been employed as teachers for several years.

Linda Heinbecker, Administrative Coordinator

Linda attended Harper College in Northern Illinois and served 6 years as Executive Assistant to the President of DBI Publishing, Co. Linda and her husband Kurt relocated to Texas in 1984. She continued her career as an administrative professional with a property management firm in Dallas, serving as assistant to the Sr. Vice President until 1992.

In 1992, the Heinbeckers were blessed with the birth of twins (a boy and girl) and Linda placed her career on hold to be a “stay-at-home mom.” While raising their children, Linda served as a school volunteer; active member of PTA and Soccer Booster Club; and became head of the children’s ministry program at her church.

Linda initially began her affiliation with Owen Lyon & Associates with a part time seasonal role. However, in 2010 with the twins graduated from high school and off to college, she became a permanent member of the OLA Team. Linda’s mission is to provide a positive experience for our clients and the general public. She is that pleasant, helpful voice on the phone and will assist our clients with a positive attitude. Linda also plays a crucial role in negotiating contracts, website productions, special projects and coordinating the scanning process for original documents and client files.
